What Is An Immersion Blender?

An immersion blender is an appliance created for blending foods in a container rather than just a blending pitcher. Rather than putting the ingredients into a “Blender”, you put the ingredients into a tall glass or a similar type container and then you just put the immersion blender (often called a “stick mixer” and sometimes called a “wand blender” or “hand blender”) into the container and blend the ingredients this way. Immersion blenders can be used for emulsifying sauces and pureeing soups. Immersion blenders are different from hand mixers in that hand mixers do not chop food.

Also, many of today’s immersion blenders, such as the Breville (TM) Control Grip BSB510XL, have different attachments for the end of the hand held blender such as the blending attachment, the food processor attachment, whisker attachment, etc. The Whisker attachment can be used to make Whip Cream, Mayonnaise, Soups, Pesto, and Salsa’s. The Blending attachment can be used to make Milkshakes, Smoothies, Cocktails, Soups, Dips, and Baby Food. the Chopper Bowl attachment is great for chopping onions and fresh herbs, AND also great for chopping Mint, Nuts, Cheese, Ice, crumbling Graham Crackers for cheesecake bases, and even crumbling Bread Crumbs.
