Above are my top picks for “Best Blender For The Money“.
Vitamix 5200 Blendtec Total Blender
I am aware that the “Top 8 Online Blender Review Authorities” chose the Vitamix brand over the Blendtec brand by a margin of 47% to 27%. I have reviewed the testing methods used to evaluate all of the blenders tested and they are well thought out and very legitimate to say the least. They chose a very challenging mixture of ingredients for ANY blender to blend and then blended this mixture on high speed for 40 seconds. The mixture of ingredients used was as follows:
Fresh Blackberries – 1/2 cup (84 grams)
Fresh Celery – 1/2 cup (54 grams)
Fresh Kale – 1/2 cup (20 grams
Frozen Mangos – 1.2 cup (79 grams)
Water – 1 cup (236 grams)
The reasons for choosing these ingredients was as such:
Blackberries – They have the LARGEST and HARDEST TO BLEND seeds of any fruit
Celery and Kale – They have among the HARDEST TO BLEND FIBER of any vegetables
Frozen Mangoes – These require the blending of large frozen chunks
After blending, the contents were passed through a medical grade, 850 micron filter (a “micron” is 1/1000th of a millimeter…..pretty small!).
The blenders were evaluated based upon how much material was LEFT UNBLENDED in the filter. The Vitamix (First Place) left 0.1% of the ingredients unblended while the Blendtec (Second Place) left 0.4% of the ingredients unblended.
There is absolutely no dispute that, based upon the parameters used for evaluation, Vitamix is the winner.
The focus of my site, however, is to find the “BEST BLENDER FOR THE MONEY” rather than The “BEST BLENDER”. The Vitamix blended the chosen ingredients THREE TENTHS OF ONE PERCENT better than the Blendtec. There is no disputing this.
Still, when it comes to getting the BEST VALUE FOR THE MONEY, the Certified Refurbished Blendtec Total Blender (with a SEVEN YEAR WARRANTY) can be purchased for $279.95, which works out to $40 per year, versus the Certified Reconditioned Vitamix Standard (with a FIVE YEAR WARRANTY) which can be purchased for $299.95, which works out to $60 a year. This makes the best value for the money the Blendtec Blender.
I have said it many times before and I will repeat it once again….I think comparing a Vitamix to a Blendtec is futile because they are BOTH such excellent blenders! I would be completely satisfied to have EITHER one! According to the testing that was done with this particular set of ingredients, as I said before, the Vitamix blended them THREE TENTHS OF ONE PERCENT better, and I must respectfully concede that this makes Vitamix the winner. But I’m not really sure that my palette could tell the difference.
These are BOTH great blenders, and in my book it’s a tie!
